MELANIE ELLIOT

Sole Trader, Ray White

Born, breed and passionate about Canterbury, I am eager to support local business and am excited by this opportunity to join the Chamber’s Board.

My past roles include that of Project Manager responsible for the establishment of a start-up insurer. My subsequent appointment leading this new and innovative company provided immense exposure to all aspects of business including cultural development, technology system design and financial management and ultimately resulted in my appointment to the role of Executive Manager at AMI Insurance. Within Executive, my involvement in the re-capitalisation of AMI and resulting acquisition were also significant experiences during which I was heavily involved in the integration and transformation of AMI.

My governance experience includes executive participation on numerous committees for AMI and the wider industry, and regular reporting to Boards. I have extensive experience preparing government submissions on matters impacting industry, and acted as Secretary of my Resident’s Association. I hold a degree in Applied Management (Strategy) and am a Fellow of the Australia New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance.

I am inquisitive, inclusive and conscientious, with particular strengths in strategy, cultural development and transformation. Having developed my career almost exclusively within member based organisations, I am attuned to the creation and delivery of member value, and capable of navigating the tension between risk and reward. I have travelled extensively, and have experience working with other cultures. Now running my own real estate business, I am familiar with the challenges and opportunities faced by franchise and small business operations.
