Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce welcomes review of Holidays Act

9 March 2016

The present issues being experienced by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and other government agencies comes as little surprise to the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce, who welcome a review of the Holidays Act.

“Employers don’t set out to underpay their employees - they want to be doing the right thing” said Chief Executive Peter Townsend.

“Despite several attempts at simplifying the law over the past decade or so, the fact remains that the Holidays Act is far too complex for many businesses, particularly those that have to grapple with a large number of variables as part of their payroll calculations. There is significant potential for misinterpretation and miscalculation. There is urgent need for further review of the Act to ensure provisions are both fair and easily administered.”
