I am currently Group Financial Controller for the Vortex Engineering group of companies, based in east Christchurch. Our group engages in environmental engineering, with 4 companies each in Australia and New Zealand, employing around 150 staff. We work in air pollution control, industrial heat, 3 waters infrastructure, and hazardous material containment (including petroleum products).
At Vortex I lead the finance/admin team servicing the Group. In addition to finance, I oversee IT, risk, marketing, internal communications, and external relations for the Group.
During the Covid-19 pandemic I have led our Group response.
I originally trained at Lincoln in horticultural management, and I have held roles in horticulture, software, tech, and accountancy, including owning my own business alone and in partnership. I have been adviser to and worked with many businesses over the years, covering a broad range of industries.
Over the past two years I have been an active in representing Canterbury manufacturers and the broader business community to government through the Chamber, and in contributing to the Advanced Manufacturing ITP and sectoral vocational education redevelopment.
For 8 years I was on the Board of South Islands largest sports club, and I remain a director of a wine company and Trustee of a tourism enterprise.
I grew up in Halswell and have been involved in the local business community for over 30 years. I now live in Rolleston with my wife and youngest son, and still play and coach football in my spare time.
