Mike Flint, James & Wells



Mike specialises in the electrical, electronics and software fields and has specialist knowledge of acquiring IP rights in the Asian market. 

As well as being an expert in drafting patent applications in the electrical, electronics and telecommunications fields, Mike has also been involved in numerous significant cases involving oppositions, patent litigation and license negotiations involving IP rights in China, Europe and the USA.

Mike served as a council member for the Asian Patent Attorneys Association Hong Kong Group for numerous years, and represented the Group in its submissions and feedback to the Hong Kong government in relation to the substantially revised patent law that came into force in 2019.

Mike has been consistently recognised in leading rankings for numerous years, including Managing Intellectual Property, IAM patent 1000 and Global Leaders.



Sam Davies, Callaghan Innovation




Sam is Group Manager of Product Design at Callaghan Innovation and oversees the development of new offerings to the companies Callaghan Innovation supports. Prior to taking up this role Sam was Customer Manager in Callaghan Innovation's Manufacturing Sector team where he supported over 70 companies and helped develop initiatives to support both production and new product innovation. 

Sam has a decade of R&D and product development experience in the Hi-Tech sector, with experience ranging from image analysis to automated DNA extraction and nano-materials development. Sam has led a number of start-up companies and organisations and is passionate about the application of technology to overcome commercial, societal and environmental issues.  


Alex Fala, Syft



Alex Fala has deep experience as a leader in some of New Zealand’s most well known growth companies, particularly in the technology sector.  Alex’s most recent role was CEO of global retail software company Vend.  Prior to Vend, Alex was an executive at Les Mills International, Orion Heath and Trade Me and a consultant at McKinsey & Company.
