  Amy Carter | Chair and Strategic Lead | Perception PR & Marketing

Amy was one of the founding Partners of Perception PR & Marketing. She has had over ten years leading and owning locally based SME’s that support clients (large and small) nationally, including a startup. Amy has built up a significant portfolio of business and government clients, NGOs and charities, across New Zealand.  She has extensive networks in the South Island business community.

Amy and her husband have interests in two other Christchurch based businesses, New Zealand Skills in Demand and Brannigans. In late September Amy steps out of the day to day running of Perception and becomes the Chair.  This move is to enable her to take up a new role as the Establishment Chief Executive of The Christchurch Foundation which she believes will be a game changer for the city.

In her governance career, Amy has served on local organisations boards over the last 20 years in both in a paid and voluntary. She has worked extensively with membership-based organisations such as The Chamber.


Andrew Logie (President)
I am a corporate and commercial Lawyer and independent professional Director, having recently retired from a leading national law firm, and now providing General Counsel services to selected clients. 
Having practised law for some 25 years, my areas of expertise include, corporate governance, business transactions, banking and finance, insolvency and restructuring, franchising, commercial law and commercial contracts.

It is of particular interest and importance to me to assist, encourage and foster the business sector in Canterbury and the wider South Island as part of a “healthy” community and I am very proud of and committed to the Chamber and the role it plays in our community. I am married and have two daughters attending secondary school.  My other interests include biking, golf, scuba diving, skiing, boating, and I have a passion for motor vehicles.

I believe I have the necessary experience, skills, passion and commitment to continue to provide tangible input, guidance and benefit to the Chamber, its Board, governance and its members.

Benjamin Badger | Partner | KPMG (Vice-President)

I am a Partner in KPMG’s Enterprise practice, specialising in providing advisory services to privately owned companies. I previously held senior roles in banking. I have also been involved in a number of family owned and privately held businesses so understand the risk and return faced by the Chamber’s members. After graduating from UC I have built a career supporting local, national and international businesses that call Christchurch home.  I’m passionate about the economic and social growth of Canterbury and I’m excited about the future for those of us lucky enough to live and work here. Building future business leaders is something I’m passionate about.  In 2007 I was a founding member of Canterbury Young Professionals, later facilitating the national roll out of the organisation.  I’m also lucky enough to be the staff partner for KPMG’s three Canterbury offices.

I believe the Chamber is doing a great job supporting Canterbury businesses, especially navigating the many challenges and opportunities faced by the region over recent years. I’ve had the privilege of serving the Chamber board over the last two years, including as vice chair of the Audit and Risk Committee. I’m keen to continue to contribute to the Chamber and its members’ success by building upon these strong foundations.  My generation is beginning to take over the reins in businesses here in Christchurch and needs to step up to fill the shoes of city leadership. Outside of work I’m married with a young family. I’m a keen sportsman including competitive cycling and love spending time on the peninsula.

  Carl Davidson | Director | Research First

Carl has been a member of the Chamber’s Board since 2015. He is the founder and a Director of Research First (one of New Zealand’s largest independent research companies). He is passionate about Christchurch and the future growth of the Canterbury Economy.

Carl is committed to promoting the need for smart, innovative, and evidence-based thinking in the rebuild of Christchurch, ensuring that the new city meets the needs of business and also to the development of the next generation of leaders who will drive the new city. 
Carl’s professional life has been spent at the interface of behavioural science and psychology. He has worked as a university lecturer (in sociology, then marketing), a social scientist in a Crown-funded research institute, a market researcher, and as a strategy consultant. This background means Carl brings a fresh perspective to the Chamber’s Board, and enables him to critically assess the Board’s thinking.

Carl regularly presents and writes about business strategy and the changing competitive landscape in New Zealand. He is the author of nine books about evidence-based learning. He is also a regular contributor to The Press, where he writes about ‘the social science of everyday phenomena’. Reflecting his standing in the New Zealand research community, between 2010 and 2012 Carl was made the Chief Commissioner of the Families Commission and tasked with turning it into a world-class centre for research on families. In 2013 he was also appointed to the Government’s Expert Advisory Group on Information Sharing for the Action Plan for Vulnerable Children.

  Craig Latimer | Manager | New Zealand Trade and Enterprise

Craig works for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise helping Canterbury companies grow internationally by working across the web of agencies acropss the NZ Inc ecosystem including MBIE, MFaT, MPI, NZTE, Callaghan Innovation, CDC, Food Innovation Network and the Manufacturers Network. His career spans 27 years of commercial experience in private companies, an SOE and laterally working for NZTE.

  Erin Black | Senior Business Advisor | Beca

Erin is an Associate - Business Development Advisor at Beca; an employee-owned, multidisciplinary professional services consultancy. With over 330 staff in Canterbury, Beca has been a key contributor to the Canterbury Rebuild providing her with valuable insight and networks to local Council and the government entities overseeing the rebuild. She is also a director at Brackenridge and member to the Institute of Directors NZ.

As strategic advisor to Beca’s Southern Leadership Team, Erin responsible for the formulation and execution of our commercial strategy in the Southern Region. Before joining Beca, she gained experience across the Aviation, Tourism and Tech Industries as Marketing Specialist at Airways New Zealand. 

A double degree graduate, Erin holds Bachelors of Commerce (Management) and Arts (Psychology) from the Universities of Otago and Canterbury respectively. Her background in Market Research is the foundation for the inquiring mind, sound analytical skills and challenge that she brings to the board table.

  Hugh Lindo | Partner | Simpson Grierson

Hugh has been a member of the Chamber Board for ten years and is currently President, assuming the role from Tony Sewell in 2016. As President, Hugh is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee, the Chamber Executive Committee as well as being the Board representative for Champion Canterbury Limited.

During the day Hugh is a corporate/commercial partner of national legal firm Simpson Grierson and heads the firms Christchurch office. He also holds a number of other governance appointments. Hugh's work at Simpson Grierson exposes him to the myriad of challenges that businesses face in this ever disruptive and challenging environment. He is a passionate advocate for the work of the Chamber and the role the Chamber can play in enabling business success for its members.

Having led the Board through the critical process of appointing Peter Townsend's replacement, Hugh is keen to play a role in ensuring that Leeann Watson is supported in her new role as CEO. It is an exciting time for the Chamber and Hugh is keen to continue to contribute to its governance, through an on-going role on the Board.

  Jenni Callaghan | Manager | Ernst Young (Vice-President)

I am a Chartered Accountant and a Manager in the Private Client Services team at EY, working alongside privately owned Canterbury based businesses.  The role involves providing professional expertise to enable businesses to operate efficiently, grow and evolve. My previous professional roles in business development and relationship management at multi-national companies including Hewlett Packard and Apple, has provided me the valuable experience in how business works both locally and abroad.

I have been on the Board of the Chamber for the last two years representing the next generation of business leaders. I continue to be driven, passionate and seek to provide a fresh perspective on the future strategy of the Chamber. In addition to being part of the audit and risk committee, I am also a Director of the Westpac Champion Business Awards. I have been actively supporting and attending professional events run by the Chamber and been fortunate to be able to meet so many leaders and doers doing great things in our city.

I am married with two young daughters and enjoy the balance between work and family. This gives me perspective and reinforces my passion to help drive the future success of Christchurch and the wider region. 

  Olivier Lacoua | General Manager | Novotel Christchurch Airport

Olivier is a senior hospitality leader with over 25 years experience in hotel management. He is a member of the Institute of Directors and has previously served numerous boards and advisory boards, such as the Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce, CCS Disability Action Wellington branch, Le Cordon Bleu New Zealand and Tourism Industry Aotearoa Wellington Hotels.

Olivier is passionate about the future economic and social growth of the Canterbury region and its tourism opportunities (Gateway to the South). Olivier has the desire to extend his skills to support the strong foundations led by the Chamber and its members to ensure that the Christchurch story is one of a strong, vibrant and most collaborative business community.

Olivier has been extensively involved with business communities and charitable organizations around New Zealand and is also a volunteer at the Christchurch Men’s Prison - Youth Unit. In 2012 he was awarded Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Merite (Knight of the National Order of Merit of France) by the French government. He has also been recognized by several industry sectors for his contribution and leadership around the accessibility community.

  Shaun Hubbard | Alliance Programme Director | AECOM NZ Ltd

Shaun has been a member of the Chamber Board since 2016.  He is an inspirational leader within the infrastructure market locally and nationally, with the passion and the desire to use his skills to support the positive growth and development of Christchurch.  Shaun has a deep understanding of business management, business risk and project delivery. He has a sound appreciation of business and project management covering health and safety, governance, risk management, process controls, scheduling and budget performance. With a demonstrated ability in developing high performing teams, and strategic thinking Shaun’s depth of commercial knowledge and ability to harness critical issues sets him apart as a leader with the ability to effect change.

Shaun began his career in Civil Engineering before becoming a Strategic Advisor on Infrastructure. He has worked with different cultures, organisations and across different continents (Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia) understanding different customs of workplaces.

  Stephen Bateman | Business Consultant

Stephen Bateman is a Business Consultant and previous founder and Director of SB Global Logistics. Stephen recently sold his business to DB Schenker, a global leader in providing Integrated Logistics Services. Stephen is also founder and Director of JSP Logistics, a specialized freight forwarder offering logistics services to Japanese tourists and businesses with offices in Christchurch, Brisbane and Tokyo. Prior to founding S B Global, Stephen worked as Operations Manager for a Multi- National Freight Forwarder in Australia, venturing in to his own business in 1990.  

Stephen is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and a committee member of the Southern Region. In 2016 he received The Sir Bob Owens Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Logistics, Supply Chain Sector & Community.  His experience in providing Canterbury Exporters and Importers with dependable links to world markets has been his key focus and building a business that is respected, trusted and that his people are proud to be part of.

Stephen has been a Chamber Board member and a member of the Audit and Risk committee for the past 5 years. Stephen enjoys a pragmatic approach to the challenges in front of our region and the needs of our business community, in particular the challenges our local businesses face with supply chain links to reach their global markets.

Stephen is married to Anita and has 2 daughters, Jessica and Stephanie. He is a keen and active sports person with interests in cycling, cricket and skiing.

  Trevor Edwards | Managing Director | Superheat Ltd

Trevor Edwards is a Director and shareholder of the family owned business, Superheat Ltd. After graduating from Canterbury University with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, Trevor started working in the aluminium industry. Firstly at Tiwai Point aluminium smelter in Bluff, then at a research institute in Melbourne followed by aluminium projects in the UK, Middle East, Central Asia and Iceland.

Following the successful completion of an expansion to the Norðurál Aluminium Smelter in Iceland, Trevor relocated back to New Zealand with his family and acquired the business Multi Machinery Ltd. Renamed to Superheat Ltd, the business has grown into one of New Zealand’s leading bespoke water heating product manufacturers.

Trevor is the President of The Manufacturers' Network (formerly the NZMEA). The Manufacturers' Network is a group of globally competitive New Zealand manufacturers who want to grow their business, and New Zealand’s economy, through collaboration, innovation and the exchange of knowledge and ideas.
