Why Choose Us

For Canterbury manufacturers, it's not just about producing goods; it's about creating opportunities, driving innovation, and nurturing a sustainable future.

You experience challenges that other sectors don't, and we are here to help you overcome obstacles and seize possibilities.

Through manufacturing-focussed advocacy, expert advice and consulting, industry-specific programmes and events, and facilitating connections, we help Canterbury manufacturers achieve their business goal.

Our dedicated manufacturing business advisor, John Hamilton, has 18 years' experience working in the sector. He appreciates the grit and determination required to be successful in manufacturing and is committed to helping Canterbury manufacturers innovate and thrive.

Making Lean and Industry 4.0 work for you

We understand the Lean systematic approach within a manufacturing system can help you achieve without sacrificing productivity, and are happy to discuss this with you.

Integrating Industry 4.0 - technologies like IoT, AI, and robotics into manufacturing processes to create smart factories - is an important technological change and we host a various events, site visits and more to help you keep ahead of the competition.

Grants and Finance

Canterbury manufacturers have the opportunity to access a variety of grants and financial support aimed at fostering innovation and growth and sustainability and/or carbon reduction, such as -

  • Callaghan Innovation: R&D grants, tax incentives, and support for technological advancements
  • The New Zealand Government offers targeted assistance through the Provincial Growth Fund and the Regional Business Partner Network (of which Business Canterbury is affiliated) - this can include financial support, mentoring, and skills development tailored to regional businesses
  • Businesses can also explore co-investment opportunities and support through New Zealand Trade and Enterprise
  • Waste Minimisation grants are available locally and nationally
  • WasteMINZ also provides a good list of additional sustainability related funds you could access

Business Canterbury members can get support and advice for  grant application processes and provide further information.
