Westpac Smarts - Financing sustainability goals

Our business community gained invaluable insights on 'Financing Your Sustainability
Goals' through the latest instalment of the Westpac Smarts Series on Thursday, 4 July. Our lineup of speakers each brought a unique perspective to how businesses can drive their
sustainability initiatives.

The key takeaways from our Westpac Smarts session:
sustainability into business models, engaging the whole team in its development
to ensure organisational buy-in and implementation.
transforming business operations to be more sustainable, particularly through
waste diversion. They keep people at the centre of decision-making, while
maintaining profitability.
  • Gareth Young, from Westpac, spoke of Westpac's own commitment to
sustainability, and their range of financial products to support customers in
making sustainable choices, that can be suited to their state or size, or where
they are on their sustainability journey.
  • Sustainability can be tackled differently depending on each business. As a
critical first step think about what you want to achieve, and how you can
measure towards that goal.
  • Having a handle on your environmental impact and integrating sustainability
targets into your business is important for your supply chain, particularly as
many overseas countries have mandatory climate and ESG reporting
requirements.
  • Strong partnerships between businesses, local stakeholders, and the
community are central to gaining expertise, and the successful implementation
of sustainable practices.
  • Authenticity is key. Sustainability cannot be the sole selling point - it must be
coupled with the other aspects of the value proposition of your products or
services.

For those who missed the event or wish to learn more:
